Pre-K Orientation News

Rest Mat and Backpack:  Please write your child’s name on both of these items before you bring them to school.  Also, please keep a change of clothes in a gallon sized ziploc bag with their name on it.  Example:  shirt, shorts, and underwear for warmer weather.  Students may also bring a small blanket for rest time.

Water Bottles:  Please keep some type of bottle with a spill proof lid filled with water in your child’s backpack.  We will be able to fill it for them daily if needed.    These water bottles will stay in their backpack until needed.  Please write names on these as well.

Bathroom:  We have our own bathroom in our classroom.  Only 1 person at a time allowed in the bathroom.  Please visit with your student about important it is to flush the toilet and wash their.hands upon each visit.  Your Pre-K student is expected to take care of their.own bathroom needs.  We understand that accidents happen from time to time.  Each student will have the opportunity to use the restroom before rest time.

Arrival:   The arrival time for Pre-K is no later than 7:55.  Parents can walk their Pre-K student in to class the first three days and will need to park in the front of the elementary. After attendance, lunch count, and flag salutes; we will then wash hands and eat breakfast as a class.  The exception to this time is if your student rides the bus.  If your student rides the bus they will report to the cafeteria first; then be will be dismissed to come to their classroom at 7:30.  Our classroom is not open until 7:30 each morning.  There will be a teacher or aide on duty in the cafeteria.  The tardy bell rings at 8:00 each day.

When your student enters the classroom they will turn in their daily folder, then hang up their backpack.  I will have a designated spot for lunch boxes to be placed if your child has brought their lunch that day.  I will send home a menu each month.  It is usually on the school webpage as well.

WE WILL EAT BREAKFAST AS A CLASS EACH DAY.  YOU DO NOT NEED TO FEED YOUR CHILD BREAKFAST AT HOME.  THERE ARE USUALLY 2 OPTIONS EACH DAY WITH CEREAL BEING ONE OF THEM.

Centers:  We wil complete 4 learning/educatonal centers in the mornings in small groups.   Students will rotate through the centers each day using a variety of writing utensils.   After each center the work areas will be disinfected  before the next group begins working.  These four centers will be a main focus of our curriculum for the day.

Lunch:  Our lunch time each day is from 11:00-11:20.  Please encourage your student to try to eat something everyday.   Your student is welcome to bring their lunch.  I will help your student open packages if needed.  It would be great if you could work at home with them opening packages and containers.  Please make sure that you fill out the free-reduced lunch form that will be in your child’s packet.

Physical Education:  This time each day is from 11:40-12:30.  The two Pre-K aides will be in charge of the students at this time as this is my daily planning period.  On pretty weather days the students will be outside.  On rainy or cold days, P.E. will be held in the elementary gym.

Rest Time:  There will be a daily rest time in the afternoons.  Your student does not have to sleep but we we do expect them to be quiet during this time.  Often during this time, I will be working with students individually.

Social Centers:  We will rotate through these centers in the afternoon.  We will work on things like sharing, fine motor skills, etc.

Afternoon Snack:  Our school offers a small snack each day around 3:00.   Your child is welcome to eat their leftover lunch during this time or a snack they have brought from home.

Dismissal:

Bus riders will have a sticker placed on their shirt that has their bus number on it.  A Pre-K aide or teacher will walk the students down the hall to the buses and make sure they are on the correct bus at 3:25 each day.  There will be assigned seats on the buses.

Car riders and bus riders are dismissed each day at 3:25.

Daily Folder:  This is the best way for daily communication that is not urgent.  You are welcome to send me notes in this folder.  I will check folders each day.  Graded papers will usually come home each day in this folder.  Important notes will come home this way as well.

Class Dojo:  I will use this text messaging system also for easy parent-teacher communication.  This is a great way to send out group announcements.  Your will need to download this app to your phone.  I will explain more about this at Meet and Greet.

Google Classroom:  We will also use Google Classroom this year especially in the event our school is mandated to transition to distance learning.  Your child will have their own E-Mail login.  I will give you this information soon.

Kids Academy will be used as enrichment curriculum especially in the event of distance learning.  I will explain more about this as well soon.
