Oktaha Superintendent Receives Award

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma Association of School Administrators (OASA) has selected Jerry Needham, superintendent of Oktaha Public Schools, as a 2019 OASA Lifetime Achievement Award winner. He was recognized at the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration (CCOSA) Summer Leadership Conference in June, along with two other Lifetime Achievement Award recipients.

The Lifetime Achievement Award is one of the most prestigious OASA awards honoring the commitment to the highest ideals of Oklahoma education. Those honored have demonstrated professional and ethical leadership throughout their careers. Awardees are selected by a committee appointed by the OASA Executive Committee.

“I am grateful to know and work with Jerry for many years,” said Dr. Pam Deering, CCOSA/OASA executive director. “He has shown great leadership not only as a school administrator, but also as the chair of CCOSA and president of OASA. We value his contributions to the profession with his focus on students.”

Needham has served as superintendent of Oktaha Public Schools for more than 30 years. His career began at the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, but as the son of a superintendent, he ultimately decided education was his calling. In 1983, Needham completed the Masters of Education Administration. Needham has been active in OASA and CCOSA, serving as board president for both organizations. He also served on the State Superintendent’s Advisory Council for more than 20 years.

“I was blessed to find Oktaha School,” Needham said. “It is a great place to make a career and a school home for my family.”
